- There was some high costs in retooling production lines, finding suppliers,
- putting the 4000 in the tower case, buying Commodore, etc.
-
- I think this justifies the high costs initially. If the high costs continue
- into late 1996/97 and with the PPC, there are many amiga users that won't
- upgrade and *NO* P150/PMac user will jump ship for a 020-060 Amiga or a
- PPC amiga that costs three times as much as their machines.
-
- They had better drop their prices *very* soon if they want NEW users
- and support from current users. If the 040/060 costs 2600/3000 bucks,
- how much are the PPC's going to run? $5000? AT needs to get a handle
- on pricing in order to put as many machines into as many homes as possible.
- With the increased numbers of machines will come many more developers/users.
- Then and only then will the Amiga start spiralling upwards instead of down.
- The 1200/4000 have helped the current situation from degrading but without
- decent prices the whole thing will come crashing down.
-
- For instance a $250 1200/030 would sell *amazingly* well.
-
- A little advertising couldn't hurt either. :)
-
- One other thing that I have wondered about. Why is AT a seperate entity
- from Escom? Why must AT live or die on it's own? Hardly any company runs
- in the black it's first 2-3 years. Trying to run in the black in the first
- year is nuts. Especially when they have priced the Amigas so high in order
- to do it.
-
- I am an enthusiastic Amiga user. I want to remain one. With the 1200/4000
- prices set as they are today, I won't be able to justify the purchase over
- other platforms.
